When asked to speak at a peaceful gathering our family held in our town, my solution was to create a visual aid to further explain my thoughts and feelings in a climate of racial injustice.
The result was the “Symbol of Solidarity” - every shape, form and color represents every type of person, race and culture, uniting and agreeing that empathy and compassion are needed to make change. The idea of ‘E Pluribus Unum,’ meaning ‘from many we are one’, is supposed to be our country’s motto. Every person must respond regardless of our differences and speak out against the wrong we see around us.
The concept and painting was later produced and designed into an array of merchandise including paddles, t-shirts, shorts, accessories and eventually a 30-foot mural.
I was commissioned by ESPN to create a series of illustrations for an article comparing Kobe Bryant’s Two Legendary careers in celebration of Kobe Day (8/24)
